Algae for Food and Feed is an initiative under the Algal Biomass Organization that is focused on accelerating the development of algae-based food and feed products to market.
OUR MISSION
The mission of FAFF is to feed the world sustainably through new algal-based products that meet consumers' expectations for taste, quality, price, and convenience.
We are working diligently to facilitate the creation of products that will encourage consumers to make sustainable food choices.
Food made from algae offer environmental, health, and nutritional benefits while helping communities through the creation of new jobs.
WHAT WE DO
Innovation and Collaboration
Our team collaborates with a diverse set of scientific and business disciplines from around the globe to tackle major challenges facing the algae industry.
Research
Although algae offer enormous potential for both food and feed production, algae products are not presently a commodity food option, as additional development and infrastructure build out are required for the economic production of products from algae.
In partnership with academic institutions and national laboratories, FAFF aims to quickly expand the algae produce sector in the food industry.
Regulatory Resource
In coordination with the establishment of the Algae Center of Excellence, Algae for Food + Feed will serve as an up-to-date resource for current regulatory guidelines and policy trends providing educational tools and webinars within the algae industry. The initiative will provide the expertise needed to accelerate the adoption of algae into food and feed.
In May 2020, the FAFF committee completed the first proposal launching the Algae Center of Excellence (ACE). The mission of the ACE is to support the development, scale up and commercialization of innovative, sustainable and eco-restorative solutions for the production of food, feed, and bioproducts from algae.

WHO WE ARE
The Algae for Food and Feed executive committee is comprised of representatives from six organizations within the algae industry.
The Algae Center of Excellence (ACE) team consists of industry leaders from around the world with the same goal of utilizing the power algae to transform the way we eat, work, and live.
